Licensing and technical enforcement updates for Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft Dynamics 365

Licensing and technical enforcement updates for Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft Dynamics 365 effective January 1, 2021

On March 26, 2020 Microsoft announced a number of measures across Power Platform and Dynamics 365 in support of individuals and organizations around the world affected by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. In addition to that, we also deferred (MC208085) several previously communicated license transitions and technical enforcement deadlines to allow customers ample time to prepare.

With those deadlines now fast approaching, we are reaching out to remind you of key dates and available resources. This communication is meant to provide you with advance notice of these deadlines so that you can take appropriate action.

CSP and Web Direct auto-renewal extension All Dynamics 365 Plan (Dynamics 365 Plan, Customer Engagement Plan, and Unified Operations Plan) customers will auto-renew through Dec 31, 2020 (extended from June 30, 2020). Prior to December 31, customers must create a transition plan to the individual app licensing model to continue using Dynamics 365. See more info here.

Power Apps and Power Automate

Power Apps P1 and P2, and Power Automate (previously Microsoft Flow) P1 and P2 plans will no longer be available for purchase, including via auto-renewal, after December 31, 2020 (extended from April 30, 2020). Customers with these plan licenses that have renewals falling on or after January 1, 2021 will need to transition to the Power Apps per user or per app plans, or the Power Automate per user or per flow plans to continue using the Power Platform services. See Power Apps licensing and Power Automate licensing for more information.

Reminder: Auto-renewal of Dynamics 365 Plan licenses will be disabled for CSP and Web Direct customers

In July 2019 Microsoft announced changes coming to the Dynamics 365 packaging model. As a part of that change, Dynamics 365 is moving from multi-application, one-size-fits-all Customer Engagement (CE), Unified Operations (UO), and Dynamics 365 Plans to focus on the licensing of individual applications. A la carte licensing of individual applications allows you to subscribe to the applications that align with your functional roles and scenarios with the option to add or remove applications as your company grows and changes over time. You can license the Dynamics 365 applications that you need, when you need them.

Customers who have acquired these multi-application (Plan) licenses via the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program or directly via Web will no longer be able to auto-renew on the Plan license if their renewal date is after Dec 31, 2020 (extended from Jun 30, 2020). These customers will need to transition to the new packaging model, i.e. from multi-application (Plan) licenses to individual application licenses, prior to Dec 31, 2020 to continue using Dynamics 365. Customers with a renewal date prior to Dec 31, 2020 can renew on the Plan licenses for up to one more renewal cycle before they need to make that change. We strongly recommend that all impacted customers create a transition plan to move to the new packaging model at their earliest convenience.
